I doubt it, but it could be a scale thing, if your software can scale
_before_ export experiment with scaling up a bit.  But too large can also
cause problems.  Take a look at the export software's options too, it might
be possible to widen the 'crease' angle, but I'm not sure about that.  I've
got no problem with fiddling with my models in Carrara after exporting from
Autocad; my only change is to increase resolution as far as Acad will go.
Come to think of it, increasing resolution might help you too.

Is there a way to stop Carrara importing models with creases.

I make my models in 3rd party software and import them as 3ds files
but sometimes it imports them with hard sharp edges that I can only
get rid off by converting to vertex models and smoothing all.  The
original model already is smooth so I shouldnt have to do this.

(Plus it resizes the model to huge proportions when I convert it and
makes it difficult to resize back to its original size and position.
