I envision a day when I can bring up a holographic primitive over my mouse pad
and shape it with my bare hands and a putty knife or two and have that product
appear on my screen. Ya never know, I like this prog. c2 is what I have, I have
used maya (demo) and like somebody said a few days ago, 90% of what is made in
maya uses 20 % of the features... so...Ya neva know. I've always been a fan of
the little engine that could. ;)

this is my 2 cents worth, or maybe it's just one cent ;-)

i think that carrara studio is an up and coming program. that will
eventually get to the top strata (oops maybe "strata" was a bad
choice) of 3D programs. let's say top level of 3D programs.

i conclude this based on the fact that carrara studio has made steady
progress in its features in the last 4 years from version 1 to
version 3. carrara has going for it, a large loyal user based (which
is growing)and a devoted development team, with which i have had the
pleasure of working at siggraph, on the beta team and on the carrara
3 book.

also, the 3D media is begining to take notice of Carrara and it is
being featured in several 3D magazines and books. i have seen carrara
included in several new 3D books.

i think that to get over the hurdle eovia must improve improve
carrara's animation, specifically character animation tools.

and i think that carrara should continue to serve those of us who are
not making the feature, blockbuster movies. eovia would make a
killing by being the top 3D application for the little guy, after all
there are millions of us and only a few 3D jobs in the "glamorous"
world of hollywood. at one point ray dream studio had millions of
users, and carrara is far better.

on my flight to siggraph this summer i sat next to a Maya support
guy, very nice fellow. during our conversation he said something that
caught my attention. he said that most people that buy Maya only use
about 10 percent of it. now why would i spend $5000 (with plug-ins
and add-ons its actually more) to only use 10 percent. i bet that
applies to other apps too.

personally i use 100% or carrara studio and with eric's plug-ins its
more like 120%.

well, that is my contribution to this thread.
