All claims to modesty aside, I think you can do some very nice
things with Poser 5 and Carrara CS3.  (I've uploaded a fairly simple
example of my own - "Portrait1" - into the files section.)

Poser figures work just well enough in Carrara that you *can*
successfully merge the two programs.  *But you can't do it easily.*
There's a lot of trial and error involved in making things work
correctly.  The devil is in the details.  The two programs have
significantly different approaches to the way some fundamental
things work.  Transparancies springs to mind.  One program sees
solid white as transparent, the other sees solid black as
transparent.  So, if you want transparancies to work correctly you
spend a lot of time with Photoshop inverting B&W images.  (For some
reason Carrara's 'invert' checkbox doesn't seem to work very well.)

Worse yet, some of Poser's strongest features - the elegant Hair
Room products and dynamic clothing - don't translate at all to
Carrara. (Or, I'm told, to many other programs either.)

At this point, *if* someone ever takes the bull by the horns and
produces a "Poser Plug-in" for Carrara, I predict that you'll be
seeing a lot of really impressive artwork coming out of a marriage
between these two programs.  Until then, you can still "do the art",
you just have to work at it.

Anne
