what do you see for carrara 's future?

Probably remain a niche program, could become the biggest fish in that bowl,
though.

Feature-wise, not until Animation gets a serious work-on. And the Interface is
just too "consumerized" -- for lack of a better word. It's still very clumsy to
go from C to the OS or to another program because of the way the UI is set up
in C. This impedes workflow seriously.

Yes. And the biggest marketing thing they could do is to work on the website.
Maybe back user contests and initiate competitions for users. Or create a forum
-based website that could store techniques and other stuff. Just look at the Z
-Brush (www.zbrush.com) site. Very active forum and a centrally located place
for tutorials (Most done by users) that's easy to get to. When I got my Z-brush
, I spent a few days reading the ammased tutes there and had a pretty good
handle on the program in no time.

Animation and bones. As good as the improvements in the Vertex modeler were in
C3, I'm afraid that C is just being used as a still-modeler and renderer. Using
bones it took me about a week and a half (or upwards of 50 hours) just to do
one cycle of steps for a walk cycle. For the first time in a long while, I gave
up on a program. I went back to Animaton:Master for animation. Although I'm
still re-learning modeling in that app, I'm very happy with the switch for me.

OT-- If there was a A:M to Carrara Plug-in that would allow me to model and
animate in A:M and then import the animation into Carrara for rendering, I
would snatch it up in a new york minute.

Schools: High Schools and secondary education places (vocational and community
colleges). In the art school I'll be starting in January, no body knew what the
heck Carrara is (or at least they gave me that impression).

Try to maintain the current price point.
>

Yes.
>
>what does carrara lack?
Animation features. The path animation "feature" hasn't worked since I upgraded
to Carrara from Ray Dream.
>

The way shaders are displayed. The shader tree in C is one of the easiest and
most powerful shaders out there that I've experienced.

Digital Carver's Guild's plug-ins

One-click 4,3 or 2 view windows.

Pretty much, and as your confidence in the program grows, so does the depth of
your knowledge in it. In other programs you have to really climb the learning
curve. Carrrara gives you a little ski-lift to the top.

>
>what tools in the interface would you like to see?
Better ways to control the influences of bones over a model
Ways to hide individual bones instead of the entire skeleton.
Able to re-use parts of a boned animation.
>
>what are your pet peeves about the program?
Not to p!ss anybody off, but puh-lease put the stake through RayDream's heart.
Every forum or graphics site I go to has a forum for Carrara and Raydream. One
even has the name as CarraraRayDream. Sheesh. I realize that in the day it was
very popular and for the times it was a great program. But it's dead, Jim. It
would be very nice to do a search for Carrara information and not have to slog
though dozens of RayDream pages that has no useful info when it comes to
Carrara, at least for me. Until the shadow of RayDream is gone, Carrara won't
be able to stand on its own.

Depends on which directions Eovia takes. If animation features constantly get
shortshrifted, maybe not ever. There's just too many variables for an educated
guess.
