Back It is possible to do this, however I think that it will be less processor intensive to model a new leaf shape than to render a transparency on each leaf. I am posting some examples of custom plants and trees, some are just manipulations of the stock trees and some have custom leaves I made. If you want to do what you are asking about just create a texture for a plane and and apply it, then save in the data area where the leaves are.
