You think? I have my doubts about that. It would be nice if it were true and
as the years pass and Carrara improves perhaps it will be but I've never seen
anyplace (looking to hire designers) ask for Carrara by name.
Without getting into software with prices in the stratosphere (Maya, XSI)
apps that could be considerd the "larger ones" would probabaly be
LightWave or 3DStudio. Those are requested by name often. Even people (in
the design field) who are not a part of the "3D community" have at least
heard those two names even if they are not quite sure what teh software
does. Carrara doesn't have that kind of name recognition yet.
I know there are people here that use Carrara professionally in their daily
work (I am one) but it seems they/we are usually freelancers, work in a place
with a small art department or are the art department. As far as design
studios adopting Carrara as a standard in that it could be considered one of
the largest 3D apps used? That's yet to happen. Granted this group is
growing but were still only just over 2000 people here.
I agree though, it would be interesting to find out how many legitmate users
there are. I would think Eovia would know based on the numner of licenses
they've sold.
