about using poser with other 3d apps

about using poser with other 3d apps

Hi,

even though i don't use poser a lot, there have been occasions where
i've used it.

One excellent use is to create storyboards. Pose your figures there
and take snapshots. Or animate and render as sketch render. Fast way
to show your client your ideas about general composition and
character positioning.

I have poser that came free with some mag, but i don't really use it
a lot.

But for those who want to use it, here are some tutorials.
http://www.royriggs.com/poser.html

They are wrote for 3ds max, but same applies largely to carrara or
any other 3d app. In this user group, there has been numerous
examples how to texture poser figures correctly etc. Combine the
knowledge you can gain herein this user group with tutorials for
other software and you can easily use poser with carrara. Or create
custom poser figures, cloths, props,...  I really think that you will
find the MappingMagician utility program usefull (it creates
texturing templates for poser figures). There's also general
explanation about UV-mapping and tutorial how to use that program.

Why i post this even though i'm not in favour of poser plugin?

I've done 3d stuff for years. I also found some things difficult when
i started in 3D way back in 1993. I did 3D professionally for many
years. Now i do more general design and software development and 3D
is just a sidedish.

Even after years doing 3d on different software, i found some things
difficult to do in carrara. This group was really helpful and all of
the people were really friendly. And I think the point of this groups
is to share knowledge and each other. The knowledge in this community
grows only through sharing. And that can happen only if we try to
help each other in the best way we can, no matter what our personal
opinions are about software, politics, religion... If we are
separating this group into smaller groups that start bashing each
other, that won't do us any good. So, it is just about returning a
favour. :-)

I usually archive all links that i think maybe usefull (i use a
helpfull little tool called linkmemo, see http://www.linkmemo.com/ ).
And through the years i have collected quite a few. The best part of
linkmemo is, that it is available anywhere regardless what computer
you use. So, I remembered that i have a link to a site about using
poser with 3ds max and searched for it.
