At a very simple level you can think of a .max as a .scn OR a .cob.
At a bit more complex level you can think of a .max scene much like a
database of objects, their locations, and their actions.

You are correct that you still need MAX to use the Polytrans, and
RightHemisphere Deep Exploration export tool. MAX by itself doesn't really
have that many export formats built into it. In fact, natively it doesn't
even do .obj. You have to install a plug-in for it.

So, the way I get MAX files into tS is to launch MAX and export it to either
.3ds, .dxf, or .obj. If you have the conversion pak for tS, .dwg works
pretty well, too.

gezz I am justbrain dead tonight.
a .max = a .scn not a .cob ?
RH has a .max plug but I was told ya still needed the 3D App Max for it all
to work.
Never did get whyya would need RH ifya had Max.

"I thought a null was a particular type of object (an object with no
geometry), used as a placeholder for various things."
Yes, that's correct.C4D really likes to name every thing and keep everything
in a hierarchy
ya can use it to organize ya mesh in to little sections, with deferent
names.same as glue meshes togeather and name them in object info box in TS.
ya usenullsfor robotic animation rigswith outbones to.same as attach
object to bone in TS just with out the bones but same result.

Thanks for the education.
I asked on the Max form buthaven't goten a response.
reckon they don't like talken to strangers.
