if it still looks like plastic then you have a problem with your
textures and bump maps. I've seen 3d humans modelled and rendered in
Max, Lightwave, and Maya for years that look pretty darn good. Yes it
has a lot to do with the renderer but it also has to do with the
modeller and the texture artist, and also the animator that
contructed the pose and expression. The default Poser humans are not
that great but the 3rd party ones (Daz3d for one) look pretty good.
They are modelled and rigged by professionals in Lightwave.

Final Fantasy is a strong example of this (though the plot verily
sucked), as well as countless 3d games.

Even Aki Ross in Poser and yes, many raytracers... would still look
like plastic. But she's not rendered in Poser, she's rendered and
animated in Maya. Thank goodness we have Carrara that gives us so
many features and does not come with the pricetag of Maya. The future
is bright for us Carrara users, both those that use Poser and those
that do not... I think.

Poser is simply an animation and posing tool, a low-end one yes,
maybe not a Motionbuilder but for a lot of us amateurs its the best
we can afford until I can get my figures to live forever in Carrara.
Lets hope for something good in the next version in that area.

my two cents... Robin
