Hm... at that resolution it's hard to tell whether it's a photo or a digital
female. It isn't natural, neither pose nor proportions, (and I'm ignoring
the fact that the feet are about an inch off the floor and a person in that
pose would likely fall over) but it's close enough to some biosculpted
individuals that I suppose it can pass as well as they do.
Is it a good example of a 'person, one each, generic'? The texture map on
the face detail looks very good, although I'd like to see several views of
it and back off the camera enough to avoid distortion. The tits aren't even
remotely natural, but since most modelers only see biosculpted ones I guess
I can't complain too much. The biggest problem with the poser figures, and
the people who pose them, is that the vast majority of them are doing one
specific genre of figure - and some work well enough for the purpose I
suppose. But they do look like mannequins; sorry guys, they do. Some make
magnificent statues, they work very well for that, but as realistic or
nicely stylized actual people? No.
A really fantastically post production reworked poser figure - like the one
on the Carrara2 box for instance - has used the figure as a digital sketch
for the artist to work on. But that is a tribute to the artist's ability in
a paint program, not a proof of the quality of the software that generated
the figure. I will say I do admire the artist who did that box art, his work
is gorgeous but it's not at all an indication of what anyone can do with
Carrara straight out of the box.
I really like Carrara's texturing and lighting abilities - they are
stunningly beautiful and I've barely scratched the surface of what it can
achieve with its new filters. But for organic animation I'll continue to
beat my head against the wall with another application that actually was
developed for animation, thanks all the same. It's the one that was used to
make the funky little green alien who gets crushed by the disco ball.
