Um, no one has attempted to answer this question
because I think you meant "no longer parallel" instead
of perpendicular. Yes?

The only way to make cross sections not be parallel
is to use the PIPELINE setting and then change the
direction of the extrusion path. In pipeline mode, the
cross sections remain perpendicular to the extrusion
path.

Beginners have a tough time with pipeline mode because
it introduces another factor into the construction process.
You'll need to play around with it for a while before it makes
sense. Just remember that the cross sections remain perpendicular
to the extrusion path and that, if you add an extrusion envelope
to the object, the movement of the points on that envelope
are controlled by the extrusion path -- movement can only be
toward or away from the extrusion path because the points
remain part of the cross section and that remains perpendicular
to the extrusion path.

Oh, another thing for beginners to know when using pipeline
mode: Center your initial cross section unless you have a good
reason not to.
