Re: ACAD to C3 2003-12-10 - By kentcshum
Back Ok, I have tried everything suggested. 3DSOUT is a no go with 2d drawing lines, it triangulates every surface anyway, that's not what I am looking for. Anything that's not solid or mesh cannot be loaded in C3. DXFOUT is pretty much the same thing, Petteri is right, C3 just can't take anything that doesn't have solid faces. I tried importing an EPS export into C3's Spline modeler, no luck! The only thing that works so far, is to extrude the ACAD plan's walls and partitions into 3D solids inside AutoCAD before the 3DSOUT export command is issued, but even so, I still have to relocate the model to coordinates that the camera can see once brought into C3, a Zoom to selected object will distort the camera view tremendously. Is there a command or feature in C3 that can move selected object to the current working box, or, move the camera to the selected object instead of zooming the camera? Otherwise I am just going to continue with my own method, by using Lightwave to load a DXF or 3DS plan(2D), and scale it down to the correct ratio. Then export it as an OBJ object, and load it in C3, the OBJ will load directly inside the working box, or, at the 0,0,0 coordinates and has no triangulated polygons. This is the only painless way for me I have found so far. Unless I am missing a lot. But then again, I am still a newby with Carrara, so there is still much to explore.
Thanks for all the help.
