I know that polylines won't do, I always explode them before
exporting.  Normal lines are fine, at least with Lightwave.  I am
going to try importing the file into Cinema 4D r6, since its free
from many of those UK mags, and see how it handles it...

I haven't tried importing lines into the Spline modeler?  May be I
should spend more time investigate....  But it looks like the only
option is via the EPS format since ACAD cannot export AI files.
