Try 3DSOUT with the quality of your render changed from the default (I think
it's .2 or something) to the best setting, 10 in Settings>Options.  It is
dependant on the quality of your render setting, which is set in Options. Be
aware one of the axes is different, I think it's Y, so the whole model will
be rotated from what you expect.

You will then need to open the model in a new Carrara file.  Open each piece
in the Vertex Modeler (you need to do this twice, at first it won't see any
editable objects) and you will probably have to meddle with the Crease and
Smooth in some areas because it sometimes mucks these up.

Save early and often, I usually make a Duplicate of each part with its own
name, Hide the original and fiddle with the Duplicate in the VM modeler -
once I'm happy with it I delete the original.

It takes some getting used to, and often after you've cleaned up the edges
of an object a render doesn't look any better.  Save, exit the program,
restart - the object will be fine.  If, at any time, Carrara slows down
immediately save and exit the program - there's a memory leak and if you
persist it can crash and destroy the file.  If it does fail and ask to save
the file before exiting, do not let it - the file will always be corrupted.

I've used AutoCad for years to export complicated models to Carrara, it
works well but it is a slow process. This latest version is MUCH easier to
work with.

Subject: [Carrara] ACAD to C3

Hi all experts,
I am wondering if this has been discussed in the past, but if it
does, then I apologize for reopening the issue.

I am trying to bring in an ACAD 2D DWG drawing into Carrara 3, say an
architectural plan, and I have found that I cannot directly import
one into Carrara 3 sucessfully without the help of another
application.  I use Lightwave as well, the only way that I have found
so far to work around this is, briefly, to export the DWG from ACAD
into DXF, and open the DXF in Lightwave, scale the DXF in lightwave
precisely to the correct scale, and then export it into an OBJ
object.  Load the Obj model into Carrara 3, and there, the model
loads correctly.
However, is there a correct procedure to precisely import a 2D DWG or
DXF into Carrara without the help of another app?

Again, my apologies if this is a closed issue or has been discussed
before.

Thanks so much!

Kent
