I realize that this doesn't help much, but I'm not having the same concern
on my p4 2.4 with overclocked nvidia video card.

 I'm not an animator so I haven't checked this out,
 but if I recall, the falling through the floor can be
 corrected by increasing the complexity of the mesh.
 Some of the primitives don't have enough polygons
 to make the objects bounce off the surface.

 Animators, please correct me if I'm all wet.
