if you have carrara 3 use the UV Editor to create a UV map which you
can use as a template in a painting program.

if you dont have Carrara 3 then you need to get UVMapper or Ultimate
Unwrap3D to do the UV mapping.

these are the only ways to texture a single polymesh that makes up a
head.
