Back The actual designation is Postscript Type 1, and yes, all Type 1 fonts are postscript fonts. When Adobe wrote the original specifications there was another postscript font (Type 3, if I remember correctly). It never really saw the light of day, mostly because it wouldn't print well, caused crashing, etc. It was replaced almost immediately by Type 1. I don't remember why Type 3 came before type 1, and there's never been a Type 2 (that I know of). For printing the standard is now up to Postscript level 3, but Type 1 Postscript fonts are still the industry standard. Newer font systems like "OpenType" are coming on line nowadays.
