Not entirely true. Bryce 5 has a way of distributing a single scene to many
computers to output a single still image. There's a master computer which
sends each slave computer the whole scene, and breaks up the scene into a
grid. Each computer renders a square of the grid and reports to the master
computer when done and gets assigned the next un-assigned grid square to
render. Once all is done, the master computer assembles the squares into a
finished image.

With the current version of Carrara though, you are right. It renders whole
images (though it *does* do so in squares....). Possible opening for a
proper distributed engine.
