Re: Carrara and Bryce 6? 2003-11-26 - By Kevin Gwartney
Back I am using Bryce quite a bit as well to augment Carrara. Carrara's terrain modeler if functional, but Bryce is a dedicated terrain modeler. CS4 or 5 might eclipse it, but not yet.
As it happens, I am doing the artwork for a game right now. It is a 2D venture and I am using Bryce 5, Carrara Studio 3, and Poser 5 to create models and pre-render them for use as in-game sprites. I was initially going to use Carrara for everything, but Poser is so good at what it does I added that to the mix. Then I started trying to make realistic terrain in Carrara and found myself falling back on Bryce instead to kick out good landforms fast. I am also using Paint Shop Pro 8 for all post work and some visual elements that are not suited to 3D (certain UI elements, icons, special effects).
The game is Realms of Hope, based on the golden oldie Master of Magic (1994). http://www.realmsofhope.com if anyone is interested in seeing our favorite art packages in real world use. Check out the Artwork Section->Tools page to see just how I am using them. There isn't much art up on the site yet, but will have screenshots and such as the months progress.
