Anything Grows adds roots, not grass, to terrains...the solution 2003-11-26 - By Eric Winemiller
Back Pierre, There is a bug (or behavior) in the Carrara Terrains where the normals go in the opposite direction of what you'd expect by default. Surprisingly, if you turn on the Smooth option in the Terrain, they go up! Also you can use the Custom Start Direction function in Anything Grows to force them to grow up too. Create two shaders value = 50% and value = 100% in the color channel. Use the 50% in your X and Y custom start direction and 100% in your Z. Move the custom start direction slider to 100%. Your strands should be straight up now.
Good luck, Eric Winemiller Digital Carvers Guild 3D plug-ins for Carrara http://digitalcarversguild.com

How do I add grass to a terrain? I can get only roots ;O) I use CS3, and Anything Grows, and would like to use the terrain editor in CS3, and add grass to it. To my great dismay, anything grows only adds grass UNDER the terrain, whatever I do do the controls. I know it seems dumb, but I cannot recall the way to add grass growing toward the sky.
PS: yes, I tried changing gravity, and even converting terrain in mesh object, which would be cumbersome!
