Back Has anyone on this list had any luck importing Amapi clone duplicates as instances of master objects in Carrara? I have the Carrara-Amapi bridge, but all duplicate clones come across the bridge with their own individual master objects. In other words, cloning does not seem to be preserved in the translation. Any comments?
I think instancing is one of the most underrated features of Carrara, and it needs more tools. You are going to appreciate its value when you start exporting models to Viewpoint and Atmosphere (same geometry engine). I'm building a very complex model that would be far to heavy for the web, except that the symmetry of the thing and the repeated elements mean that by instancing I can cut the file size down to less than 5 percent of the original without any loss of detail! Huge amount of tedious work, though, because the tools are paltry.
I wish Anything Grows would preserve tip objects as intances. I wish Gemini would create a half model as an instance of the other half. I wish there were a way to distribute instances to vertices or facets of a mesh (yes, Amapi does this but as I said, the clones don't cross the bridge to Carrara). I wish particles were all instances of but one master particle. I wish the hundreds or thousands of leaves on a Carrara tree were but one leaf repeated without additional geometry. I wish Carrara or Amapi could read PDB molecule files and create each atomic sphere as an instance of a master sphere so that macromolecules with thousands of atoms would have minute file sizes. The wish list goes on and on. I guess I'm wishing for "instance" gratification.
