interior iluminate 2003-11-22 - By Pierre Jetté
Back Make the shaders of your lamps with a glow. Add Environment Lights, one for each lamp. "connect" the Environment Lights objects with the lamps, adjust the strength to get the desird effect. To get the best effect, dont forget to put down Ambient to 0%. Here is a step by step: [Sorry if the very terms are inexact, I have the French version of Carrara, I translate at my best.] Empty scene. Delete the default light, then go to Scene->Effect->Ambiant, down it to 0% Add a cylinder, scale it to get a thin and long cylinder. Duplicate, place the cylinders parrallel but not far apart. Englobe both in a cube, rescale the cube to get the like of the fluorescent box, and edit it to make it a vertex object: (double click the cube, you are then in the modeling room. In the menus, choose Edit->Convert in another Modeler, choose the second one. Then, click on one of the facet UNDER the box, hold SHIFT and click in the middle of the second facet (if everything is OK, you should have 2 facets under it...). Once again in the menu, Selection->Empty Facets. Come back in the Assembly Room. You should have now a box, emptied on the inferior face, containing 2 parralel long tubes. Rename the tubes Tube1 and Tube2. Now, insert (with the menus or the icons) 2 Environment lights. Rename the first Env-Tube1, the other Env-Tube2. Click on Env-Tube1 in the Properties box at the right of your screen. Make the following changes: Object = Tube1 Origin = Facet ( not obligatory, just nicer... ) The samething for Env-Tube2: Object = Tube2 Come back to Assembly Room, press and hold the letter X on the keyboard, make a preview. If everything is fine, you should see.... strictly nothing. Because there is nothing to illuminate. Insert an infinite plan (or whatever you want, only put it under the "fluorescent box"!). Make a preview. Very nice looking effect, no? You the should tweak it using the Shadows tab of the Env-Tube1, and Env-Tube2, using soft shadows, etc. To get a real nice effect, click on one of the tubes, go to Shader room, adjust the shader to get a completely black color, but a faint blue Glow. Back in Assembly room, click on the other tube, assign it the same sghader (in Property box). Click on each Environment light, and change the property to get Color from "Object Glow" rather than from "Light". That way, you can tweak the light to be colored, fainter, etc, just by changing the Shader itself. Hope that helps.
