Back Hi Pascal,
>From what I can see, the way motion blur works in Carrara is that it renders the first frame. Then it renders the second frame and superimposes the first frame on top of it creating an average of the two images. It continues to do this for every successive frame, superimposing them together with the frames that came before. The disadvantage of this type of motion blur is that it tends to produce a faint tail behind the moving object. Also it produces more blur than is realistic considering the frames per second.
The way I have used it is that I add two motion blur filters to the scene. This smoothes out the blur. I leave the blur checkbox unchecked since it can produce visual artifacts. Then I crank the frames-per-second up to the maximum of 60 fps so that I get the finest grade of blurring. After I render the animation, I want to lower the frames-per-second to get a more realistic blur and to reduce the file size. I create a new Carrara scene with nothing in it except a backdrop consisting of the animation I just made. Then I set the desired frames-per-second and render this.
Hope this helps.
