if you are using carrara3, then use it's own uv editor
otherwise get uvmapper (free), uvmapper pro or ultimate unwrap 3d
(cost a little) or if you are really serious, then deep uv/deep paint
or maxon's 3d painting application. The latter two will cost you more
than carrara...
