Newbie Queston about Shading

Newbie Queston about Shading

2003-11-19       - By Mick Stiers

 Back
I am using C3 to animate industrial machinery for marketing
purposes.  The equipment is designed in a solid modeling package
(SolidWorks) and I import it as a .3ds file into C3.

When an object is imported, it all comes in as one color (shade?).
I would like the ability to shade portions of the object
differently.  For example, if I import a machine table, I would like
to shade the legs to simulate a painted surface, but shade the top
to simulate an aluminum plate.  Is it possible to do this or do I
have to make the legs one imported part and the top another?

The whole texture room is very confusing to someone of so experience
as me.  Are there any on-line resources that I can access that may
provide more guidance than the C3 manual?

Thanks in advance,

Mick
