Back I have a new computer, an HP a400n with 256 meg. I've installed TS6.6 on it and the installation seems to work just fine and so does Truespace until I go into the Facial Animator. Then it can't find the heads and it tells me the installation is wrong.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing at least 2 or 3 dozen times with every variation I can think of. Every installation seems to work just fine. Facial Animator fails in the same way each time.
The only button that isn't grayed out on FA is the wizard and I try to use it to create a custom head and it also fails saying it can't find the default head for a prototype and it gives me the name and path of the head it's looking for which begins with something like "degree_ae\" where degree is the degree sign, not the word degree.
I've looked in all the configuration stuff for some kind of incorrect pointer. I've looked in the registry and done grep searches for _ae and for the head name. I don't know enough about the internals of TS to know what's going on.
I have TS installed on my old computer with no problem. Both are installed from the same CD. I've even tried installing from the downloaded TS66 from before the CD shipped. The old computer has Windows 98 and the new one has XP home. I'm guessing that TS is bothered by the different folder structure in XP but I'm not sure of that.
I've tried getting help from TS support and they've given up. I can see why since there's no way they can duplicate the problem. But I thought someone here might have experienced this and have some ideas about it. Or, maybe someone here has some knowledge of where that pointer (assuming thats the problem) to the heads is and what can be done to fix it. I'm not shy about using a hex editor if I have to.
Any ideas on this will be appreciated. I'd like to get this going on the new computer. It's not much of a computer, I know, but it's what I could get. Everything in TS other than the Facial Animator seems to work just fine. Poser 4 seems to work fine on the computer, too.
By the way, I've even gone so far as to re-install the OS after formatting the hard drive and trying to install TS after the fresh install of the OS. I did this because I had to do the fresh install. Not because I thought it would help. But since was doing it I thought I'd install TS first to see if it made any difference and it didn't. But at least I know it's not a conflict with some other program.
If anyone has any suggestions they'll certainly be appreciated.
