Before saving a CAR file (scene) turn your render settings DOWN.
If you don't and when you choose to have a preview thumbnail attached
to the CAR file it will render the preview at your current render
settings.
That means if it took 3 hours to render your pic, then the preview
thumb for the file is going to take a long time!
