Hi Kim and Andrew,

Thanks for the tips, I have some ideas now that I have to see if it's
working or not. Nice tip on the enviromental variables too, let's see
what happens if I fiddle with those ;)

cheers again for the replies, much appreciated,

I had this idea a while back that using the Unix .cshrc model we could
do some nifty user/system/network stuff with config files. The idea is
you ripple through Network, System,Project, user init files picking up
and modifying settings as you go. I think with the new plugin framework
we could actually do it now.

  Workgroups are good!

Also, I believe there is some support for environmental
variables inside Shelfs, perhaps that would help:

e.g. From the .xsitb for "My Media Shelf"
  path="$MYMEDIAPATH/Audio"

I think I follow you. Would more than one workgroup help
you, set some locations to have only the one then cherry-pick others at
other locations, on top of the base and according to local needs?

Argh... scripting, you already lost me here.
Don't know where to go with that line of scritping hehehe ;)

My initial thought was to keep the folder with
the scripts, trays etc. outside the workgroup to keep it "clean" and
only have installed shaders, plugins etc in the workgroup folder.

The other folder that contains all kinds of
presets, textures, models, scripts, trays etc. would be outside the
workgroup folder, so I can easily update it on the other location(s).
And because it's only linked, not installed on the workgroup there's no
risk on breaking something.

I just want to apply this setup to several
locations with one default company interface, but maybe I'm going the
wrong way here.....
I don't know if this makes any more sence. I'll
have a look at this tonight, see if I can find something in the manuals
anbout this.

Cheers for the replies so far,

        Hi Kim,

This would be from XSI. Scenario would
be opening XSI, choosing the interface, and from within the interface
setup the appropiate trays, views etc. would be "build" from the files
on the server. But the path in the interface would be a variable to
these files instead of a given path. Hope this makes sence.

        Hi all,

Just a quick thought, when I want to add
some toolbars in my interface, can I use the %_WGRP_SHADERPLUGINS%
variable to look them up on the server??

What I want is to use one/the same
interface on a couple of locations, and would like to have the
script-trays etc. in that interface available on both locations.
So I thought making trays with the
%_WGRP_SHADERPLUGINS% variable hacked in the XML interface file instead
of a \\server\workgroup folder.
Will this work or not? Obviously the
server names are different on the several locations ;)

cheers for any replies or tips.
