ie6 assistance needed 2004-04-05 - By Martinez Ricardo.O (NET/Dallas)
Back my suggestion (sorry I'm late to the party):
1. Change browsers (sorry, don't mean to sound condescending). Mozilla Firefox (previously known as Firebird, previously known as Phoenix) is what I use. It works great, and doesn't seem to be affected by the ie-only trojans/viruses out there. Plus, Tabbed browsing just has to be experienced to be believed. Plus, it's free: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
2. Load the Google toolbar. For those rare occasions when I *have* to use ie, the google toolbar is indispensable. It puts the google search right on your toolbar, but mainly, it blocks pop-ups. It's GREAT at what it does, plus, yes, it's free. Piece of cake to install, too: http://toolbar.google.com/
3. Adaware. Enough said about it by previous posters.
4. Spybot. Basically another program like Adaware. Supposed to be very good as well, though I've not tried it myself. Oh, and it's free, too: http:/ /download.com.com/3000-2144-10194058.html?tag=lst-0 (See http://lst-0.ora-code.com)-1
5. CWShredder. It's possible that your browser has been "hijacked". This happened recently to a friend of mine, and it certainly sounds like your situation ( Redirections to CoolWebSearch related pages, Redirections when mistyping URLs, Redirections when visiting Google, Popups in Google and Yahoo when searching, etc.) In her instance, Adaware couldn't get rid of the problem. But CWShredder could . Oh, and it's free. From techguy.org: -- ------ Click on the link below and it will download CWShredder. Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished restart your computer.
I strongly recommend you install the following patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits:

6. That's it for now.. but I hope it helps...sorry about your problems... I've helped enough people with ie/web/computer problems to know how frustrating it can be. Keep us up to date Ravenn!
Hoping to help,
Ricardo Martinez

Pop Ups ie6 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp to stop pop ups. tools / internet options / 2nd tab "Security " / Click " Custom Level " and set to High.stops the pop ups. ya can manually change the settings also. That's what the $10 pop up apps do just if ya do it ya self it's Free :) you can go in to last Tab " Advance " also.
DivX DivX the free version will have pop ups.no browser needed. Some games have spy where on them to,or something aggravating.
The Web is a catch 22. If we surf were going to get seaweed. Just hope we don't end up in the middle of a oil spill.
