Back It's more likely to be some kind of an xsibatch setup thing than it is a batchserve thing. All Batchserve does is kick off Xsibatch and start rendering frames. If you're having problems with shaders and workgroups you should be sure that the workgroup paths are set correctly on all your slaves and that these paths are visible from those slaves.
One way of doing quick a quick check to see if it's set up OK is to run an xsibatch on a slave to render the scene and see what happens. One of the more annoying things about Batchserve is it's unfriendly logging system and trying to track down problems like this can be hard. Output from the xsibatch would likely be more informative.
