I hope too. Sometime bump is so complicate to use :-/
I just finished a little script who set the good bump step parameter for
you :-)
It will not help you with your bump/glossy surface bu maybe it can be
usefull ?

Very practical if your bump map images are big and/or with a lot of repeat.
