Back It should be possible to do it, Matt, I've done it in the past but, from memory, the geometry needs to be the same.
There's also issues with copy style where the hair is on clusters. Basically, it doesn't work.
If you're working with hair you should make sure to get at least QFE 4 on 4.2. There's a good few fixes there.
