To determine the field of view use this formula

alpha = 2*arctan(d/(2*b)

To dertermine the focal length convert the formula as follows

b = d/(2*tan(alpha/2))

with
alpha = aperture angle (FOV)
d = 24.892mm (for horizontal)
d = 18.912mm (for vertical)
b  = focal length in mm

Pay attention to the different film back values for the horizontal an
vertical measurement.
XSI unfortunately don't convert vertical to horizontal FOV automatically
if you switch from one
to the other.
