Back It doesn't sound like this is the problem but it's worth being sure it's eliminated. When using dynamics and caching on hair there's a very strict order of events that should be followed when rebuilding the cache because hair isn't very good at working out what it's rest pose is:-
Go to start frame Set cache mode to read/write Clear cache Reset dynamics Playback, or go to last frame. Set cache mode to read only.
If you don't do this you're guaranteed to get kicks in the sim.
