Hmm -
it's a thought!  I know Alias did pretty well in educational
institutions, and they have a Mac version....
I believe I saw figures on Alias's revenue from the Mac version and they
claimed it was in the 20% range of all Maya revenue.
Of course it was the only option for pro 3D on the mac at the time, and
now there is Modo, etc.
I know that mental ray ships with a complete Mac OSX version, and in
fact some mental images folk use the Mac as the primary dev platform.

Of course it may be the case that Softimage is too tied to the windows
infrastructiure to really support new platforms.
That would be a shame.  It would however be consistent with Microsoft's
business strategy.
