You didn<t specify the port number in your telnet. You used instead the name of
the service. By doing so, if the telnet is done on the master it will use the
port specified on the master, which can be different for the port used on the
slave.

1- Be sure the sat service is running in the processes list on the slave.
2- Open the services file file on the slave and be sure you are using the
correct port number for sat service.
3- Then telnet machine_name port_number (not name of service) (no firewalls)

Hi,

Sorry if I posted the wrong telnet results - I tried both with
identical results.

Cheers,

Alan.

satellite service instead of the Mental Ray service. When you install XSI you
have the choice during the install to install mi-raysatxsi_4.2 and/or mi
-ray3xsi_4.2. Please not the correct port for the satellite service, because you
will need to specify it in the .ray3hosts. You CAN'T test satellite by opening
a command prompt and typing ray3. Ray3 will use MR stand Alone licenses.
Satellites will use the licenses any product (Advanced, essential and batch)
these licenses will permit 4 tcp/ip connection for satellites.
