Back HI
If you want to use the Satellites, you should telnet using the satellite service instead of the Mental Ray service. When you install XSI you have the choice during the install to install mi-raysatxsi_4.2 and/or mi-ray3xsi_4.2. Please not the correct port for the satellite service, because you will need to specify it in the .ray3hosts. You CAN'T test satellite by opening a command prompt and typing ray3. Ray3 will use MR stand Alone licenses. Satellites will use the licenses any product (Advanced, essential and batch) these licenses will permit 4 tcp/ip connection for satellites.
The syantax in the .ray3hosts file should be like this :
slave_name:7010 (or any other port set during the setup)
You want to test it? From the Master you telnet slave_name port_used_bysat _service
You can modify any ports for services in the services file located in c: \windows\system32\drivers\etc
Be sure that no firewall will block the ports.

Hi All,
Not sure what's not happening here, I've got satellite rendering almost working.. If I telnet I get the following..
telnet buzz mi-ray3xsi4_2 Trying 192.168.0.38... Connected to buzz. Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host.
And running ray3 -verbose on gives me
MSG 0.0 info : reading hosts file /home/paul/.ray3hosts MSG 0.0 info : connecting host buzz:7010 MSG 0.0 error 011213: cannot receive welcome message from host 1 (active) MSG 0.0 error 011702: cannot connect(2) host buzz:7010
Any ideas on where the error lies?
Cheers,
Alan.
