probably the same concern that everyone is the business has... how to find a XSI animator? Even though it's been growing lately (the community) it's still very difficult to find a good XSI person. Most of them are already busy working for others... Finding maya people is a lot easier, so I can understand ILM's decision (if they made one) to streamline it towards a Maya based pipeline. Just look at all the university/college courses... compare how many Maya animators there is for each XSI animator.
Here in sweden for instance (bad example I know...) there are currently NO schools offering XSI at all. Some might have a license or two of XSI, but no one is using it. They all are using Maya and Max. Look at the colleges around California, how many of them has XSI as their main animation software? So this discussion is not so much about which "software is the best one", more of "how do I find people quickly". And that competition Maya won... big time...
And with that said... XSI generalists that are based in Sweden (or are willing to go here for smaller contracts)... send in your reels to the company that I'm working for right now. All I can find are Maya people, but we need XSI people.... or... we will have to switch pipelines in the near future.
