Linux or windows?

Linux or windows?

You can also do an ftp install from their (SUSE\Novel) site (or a
mirror) which is neither a live cd nor an eval.  They don't provide CDs
for this install (most likely to encourage sales of their for-pay
offerings).  Its fully functional however.  If you want to do a large
number of network installs for your network you can mirror that section
of their ftp server on your own internal server.

That said, I actually can't fully recommend linux for XSI workstations.
I'm a little hesitant.  I don't like the MainWin shim that makes it
run.  Older versions of jscript and vcscript kinda scare me.  So does
the odd implementation of IE.  Other programs that are built from the
ground up to be portable to a unix style environment don't bother me
(i.e. Maya, which is designed orignally for IRIX.  i.e. Shake).  Infact
I'm usually a strong linux advocate.  Its just the way XSI is ported
over, and its heavy dependence on MS Windows tech that's knawing at me.
At this point I'd lean toward a specific mix of windows workstations and
linux render boxes to be a little safer than going completely Linux,
while still taking advantage of some of what linux has to offer.

Just my 2 cents.
