I've done some research lately and many 3d applications work faster on
linux, and after you set everything up properly,
this is said to be really rocksolid (not a marketing slogan here:)).
It is not as user friendly and there are not many compositing or editing
applications (shake, nuke...).
I ordered a license of SUSE 9.3 and I'm definitely changing to linux.
You can download eval or live versions of suse from their website if you
like.
It's probably the best for a normal not hacking user.
