Back It's worth pointing out that you may need to be really careful about which way round you put those two arguments. I'm not sure how well some of these new-fangled Linux type things work but way back when, SGI/UX used to destroy a file if it existed as the 'to' argument.

yeah - other way around ln -s /the/real/file/is/here /my/symlink/is/here
and if the second is a directory is creates a link of the same name as the file in that directory.
Of course the boot script management on gentoo is much nicer ;-) (sorry guys - couldn't resist)
