synoptics in the workgroup

synoptics in the workgroup

Regarding distributing synoptics as part of an addon:

I am building a synoptic that serves as a part of the UI for my muscle system
toolkit for XSI.

However, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how best to apply it from my
commands.

A synoptic property expects either an absolute, or relative path.  It also can
incorporate environment variables.

If I install the synoptic to a workgroup, how do I specify a path in the
synoptic property thats relative to the workgroup?  I can't have it put in the
absoulte path, since that path may be different from machine to machine.  Also,
if someone moved a scene from a machine at home to a machine at work, the path
definitely would not match up even though they both have the addon installed
with the synoptic.

I took a look at Mr. Isner's character SDK rigs.  He uses the following string
for example:

$SI_HOME/Data/XSI_SAMPLES/Synoptic/Rig/BipedSynoptic_IK1.htm

So he's using an environment variable to the softimage install directory since
his synoptic is part of the base install.

So I could install my synoptic as a "Factory" addon and use Mr. Isner's trick.
Or I could install it to the user path and use the $XSI_USERROOT variable.

But is there a way to get a synoptic property set thats relative to a workgroup?
Or for that matter, relative to a given addon's install directory no matter if
its a workgroup, user, or factory addon?

I can think of a few potential workarounds but I'd like to know if there is a
"right" way befor I attempt them.

Thanks.
