check keyboard mapping for reserved keys

Hi,
I am just searching in the docs for a way to check whether a key is
already mapped in the keyboard mapping or "free".
To put it differently, I like to implement a function like:
IsKeyReserved(string key) in either VB, JScript or C++, but I doubt that
it is possible at all.
Any ideas?
