Both Maya and XSI should be using the shader name string and shader
parameter name strings to identify shaders and parameters.  These are
unique in mental ray's symbol table.  3DS Max works this way.  Also, one
should not have to add each shader to maya.rayrc (in Maya) or explicitly
install the shader (in XSI).  Placing the shader .mi and .so files in a
particular directory should be all that is necessary.  Max does this,
too.  I hope that Maya and XSI catch up.
