Back Yes, this second part would be very interesting !
But now it's very easy to do it with the "fake3d" node in the fx tree(since xsi 4). I did some test some time ago and it gives interesting results by linking the light position with the "3d light" in this node ( I even post an example on the list with some 3d trees, can't find it now ). All you need is to feed this node with a normal map, a color map and a Depth map
If you need some examples, I could find my test tomorrow.
