Back I think, you should camera project, on the first frame, then MUTE the camera projection.. the image sequence will continue updating on the ball, and you can deform it..
If that doesnt work for you, you'll probably need to write a script that for each frame, mutes deformation, cam-project,. mute projection, un-mute deformations, render a frame.. and so on..

it's preety dirty.. but it worked..
