I had this viewer crashing on one single machine. I thought it was because of
the different screen resolutions on the monitors. It
was the machine of a Maya animator which tried to animate in XSI.
I just opened XSI for her on the next machine (two screens with same
resolutions) and it never crashed again. (used same layout and
prefs of the other machine).

About the network thing. A few month ago I was working in a company where the
interaction with PPGs was very slow and XSI took a
very long time to start up. In the end it was the workgroup with all addons,
spdls and that stuff. Just removed all of the unused
addons and it was faster.

I tested the slow down with a very very simple scene.
Get 2 spheres. Open the PPG of the first sphere. Click on the second sphere in
your explorer to select it. How long does it take
until you see the changed PPG? It took about a second!! Then I opened the prefs
and removed the workgroup. No XSI restart, just
tested it again. And it was many times faster.
