Try turning off OGL optimization for the animation editor, it could very
well be some buffer overflowing.

Non OGL redraw could be fairly slow, especially with that many curves, but
it will eventually chew through them.

Also is this on dual monitor and/or on a custom layout with tons of pane
switchers? There's quite a number of ways to overcrowd a buffer, and you're
probably bumping into one of them.
