second this. This is one of the most annoying problems with particles. Only solution is increasing the framerate like tenfold, which can change the results of the simulation a lot (especially with turbulence, noise..) and increases your simulation, rendering, .... times too.
I've had quite some luck with making larger, beam-shaped particles, and playing around with the falloff, and frameaveraging the hell out of them, but that's just a halfdecent workaround for something that should work in the first place.
If often start off making a cloud for the emitting particles, plotting their curves and animating spheres on those curves. But there you completely loose the procedural nature of particle simulations, so it s a major workflow killer. And then you're gonna get to the point where the amount of emitters makes setting up your simulation a pain, and incredibly slow. ...
