Back But, the vertex data that is available in maya could be very useful in a number of situations.
I would be interested to know what Mark Wilson (Point Oven) has to say on the matter...

Interesting thing - actually it's just more ammo to slag on maya users with, but anyway - is that maya's translator to a mental ray scene bolloxes up this info so it can't render motion blured realflow meshes in mental ray (though it can with the standard renderer).
